Stacy the nurse who cared for me before and after surgery brought laughter to my fear, calm to my anxiousness, and kindness to every moment. She made sure I understood everything before I headed home and made a tough day a lot easier.

[story: I was in line behind a woman who was clearly having one of those mornings — flustered, snapping at her kid, looking exhausted. When she got to the counter, the guy ahead of her had already paid for her drink. He just nodded and walked out. She started crying at the register. I bought the next person's drink. Don't know if it kept going but I hope it did.]

[city: Newport Beach]
[date: April 2026]
[nominator: the girl with the red kayak]

A guy paddling out from the other direction saw me, came over, helped me get back in, and then paddled alongside me back to the beach making jokes the whole time so I wouldn't panic. By the time we got to shore I was laughing instead of crying. Thanks Mike (I think? you said your name and I forgot in the chaos).]

[nominator: Marisol]
[story: There's a hippie guy with a giant "Jesus Loves YOU" sign who waves at every car going by in the morning outside the Vans on Newport and 18th. I've driven past him probably 200 times. Last week I was having the worst morning of my life and I made eye contact with him at the light and he just smiled at me like he KNEW. I started bawling. I don't even believe what he believes, but I needed someone to look at me like that. Whoever you are, sir — keep doing what you're doing.]

[story: I got a flat tire on the 55 freeway right as I was getting off on MacArthur. Stuck on the shoulder, cars flying by, AAA quoted me 90 minutes. A guy in a beat-up Tacoma pulled over, changed my tire in like 15 minutes with his own spare gear, refused $40 cash, said "pay it forward" and was gone before I could even ask his name. Whoever you are: thank you. I cried in my car for ten minutes after you left.]
